10 Eco-friendly holiday gifts

In this economy many of us are looking for ways to cut back in Christmas gift spending and give more gifts from the heart that are not wasteful.  Here are 10 ways to give without giving “stuff” to your friends and loved ones, so to also help save waste on the planet!  They are also great opportunities for teaching our kids to thing globally and to give more of themselves.

Go to: www.TreePeople.com and have a city tree planted in someone’s name.  $25-$100.

Go to: www.Heifer.org and donate whole, or shares of animals to families who can then include them in their struggling communities to help them out of poverty by raising funds, fertilizing their crops, and create sustainable farming, etc.  My parents donate an animal in our daughter’s name and she is learning so much from it.  Bees, chicks, water buffalo, etc. $10-$5000.

Donate winter clothes.  Priceless.  

Help families in Honduras through www.MercyCorp.org.  There you can help purchase bee kits to teach people to culture them and help keep the world’s dwindling bee population up.

Donate $100 to www.rainforest-alliance.org/index.cfm and save an acre of rainforest.

Volunteer your time at a local soup kitchen, etc.  To search ideas go to: www.VolunteerMatch.org

Donate to adopt a polar bear as their delicate habitat is greatly affected by global warming.  www.WorldWildlife.org  $50-$250

Go to: www.TisBest.org where you can purchase gift cards from $10-$200 where the recipient can then donate that money to a charity of their choice!

Give an unlimited year pass to your favorite family to tour all of America’s National parks.  $80 (4 adults and a vehicle).  www.NPS.gov

Help purchase water sent to 3rd world countries.  Your $20 pays for water and sanitation projects that will provide them clean water for -- at least -- 20 years!  www.CharityWater.org

The Green Urban Mama

Hey Moms!

My intention in blogging here is to document my navigation of "going green" one step at a time so to possibly help other green urban mamas in the DFW area do the same while facing the challenges of living in the urban jungle, but without feeling like we are sacrificing our style and trendiness as Dallasite mamas. :-) Going green can be daunting in terms of where to start, but it is something we all need to do. I hope to make it fun and easy so that over time (not over night) we all become more educated and greener in the process!

I also have a business from home helping others turn an everyday family expense into income. I do this so I can be with my daughter and take advantage of our wonderful time together. I love offering insights into that realm of entrepreneurship! Let's talk and network, ladies!
