Drive-in movie madness
Friday night we went to the drive-in movie. Now before everyone starts to wax nostalgic about their memories of the drive-in, let me say this... this was my first time. I grew up in a small town, and before I was old enough to see movies, the one drive-in in town closed down.
So when my husband and I talked about checking out the Brazos Drive-In in Granbury, I got very excited. Then I got my son excited. I mean, really, how great was it going to be. We invited another family and started making plans.
When we checked the Brazos' website we found out good news: $18 a carload... $18! That's six dollars a movie! But wait, it's a double feature... so three dollars a movie. What a deal! And the best news, it was a double feature of superheros. Perfect family fun!
We found out we could bring in whatever food and drinks we wanted. We could bring in lawn chairs, coolers, pillows and candy... "Everything but a BBQ grill" the website said. What a deal! We were saving money on the tickets, the food, the snacks.
The only drawback we could find was that they don't start the first movie until dark. With it being the middle of summer this could be 9 p.m. But we rationalized, it is summer so our son has been staying up later. And we had seen both of the movies, so if we didn't make it through both features, we wouldn't miss anything. And the price was so right!
We were not dissappointed. We arrived at dusk with enough time to pick out our spot and set up our stuff. The kids got out a football and started playing. We had backed up our SUV and opened the back. We set up pillows and snacks for the kids. Then sat down and visited with our friends over a cold drink and some snacks.
The lot wasn't too full, but busy. Families, couples and a church group pretty much filled up the lot by the time the movie started. There were bathrooms, a full consession stand and even seats set up under a canopy for anyone who wanted more of a movie theater setting.
We had a great time. There is no bad seat in the place, with such a big screen. And the evening temperatures were perfect. I even grabbed a blanket by the second movie. The bugs were minimal, but we did spray everyone with a little bug spray for safe measure.
Now for the embarrassing part. About a half hour into the second feature, I dozed off. And the kids were in and out, curled up with pillows. So we ended up packing up halfway through Iron Man and heading home. But I still consider the entire night a blast, and a great deal.
And believe me, this fall we'll do it again.

I take my kids to Brazos everytime they change the feature film to something we want to see. I love it. They also give a $3 discount to police, fire with an id. We also went to see Iron Man...... wonder if we was there the same nite.
Its a great family activity. Thanks for sharing
I've been wanting to take my family there for a long time. It sounds like a lot of fun however, my crew crashes at 8 p.m. which, is way before the sun goes down. I think we'll definitely try in the fall when it gets darker a lot earlier.

That sounds like so much fun! I remember going to a drive-in movie when I was a kid, and there were three or four screens set up, each showing a different movie. I got a kick out of seeing stuff I wasn't supposed to see when I'd crane my neck to look at the other screens, which were showing some horror film or otherwise inappropriate movie.
