Project: Kid's artwork, Showcase it!
If your house is like ours, you are overwhelmed with artwork sent home with your children.
At first I thought I should save it all, but if I did I could fill a room floor to ceiling. Now, I edit them as they come home with the girls. I have two bins one for Emerson and one for Brit.
One night, I started thinking about how unfortunate it is to have all of these items hidden away. Also, I needed something to fill a space on our playroom wall. Being an artist, I have lots of canvases lying around the house. In my own artwork I have started using decoupage and collage.
Voila!
I can take some of our favorite pieces of art and collage them on a canvas to hang on the wall of the playroom.
I could even have my 5 year old help me with it. Our collage ended up being quite large and only my 5 year-olds art. We will make another one as our second daughter gets older.
You can make this project with as little or as many pieces of art as you would like.
Supplies (available at local craft stores)
* Canvas (with paintable edge)
* White glue
* Acrylic Paint (craft or in a tube depending on what constancy you want)
* Foam paintbrushes
* Glitter
* Mod Podge
Steps
* Paint the edges of canvas with a color of your choice. Let dry.
* Choose all of your artwork.
* Lay out the art on the canvas.
* With foam brush, apply glue to art or canvas.
* Firmly press art in place.
* let dry.
* If you want a shiny finished look, apply a one coat of Mod Podge with foam brush over the art. Skip any three dimensional areas. Our daughter wanted to sprinkle some glitter on to add some pizzazz. It will adhere to the Modge Podge.
* HAVE FUN!
* Hang it somewhere in your home. Your kids will love it! Our daugter thinks she's Picasso now. And in my mind she is.

Cool, I wish I would've done something similar when the boys were little. In my attempt to get my house ready to sell, I recently pulled everything down from the attic which included nearly 8 FULL boxes of artwork, science projects, school papers and valentine decorated bags! Why did I save all this stuff???? Now I have the task of going through and making a few selections of the most meaningful pieces to save and share with their children someday. Is that what I'm supposed to do with this stuff? It does take me down memory lane to remember the cute little things they use to do and how they used to let me know I was their #1 and how much they loved me. :(
Now they just smell real bad and think I'm a big pain in the ass.
Great idea. I love how my kids' art is so free and vibrant. My son painted sunflowers in fourth grade and it's, hands-down, my favorite piece of art in my house!
What a neat way to show it off.
Thank you for this wonderful idea! I think what I will do is...My girls are 18 and 16, I did the no-no and save all the art work plus some writings they did. So if I collage that it might make a wonderful piece of art for their first homes! Now, why am I hearing them groaning in the background when they are sleeping???

God only puts on our shoulders what we can carry...He has me mistaken for a linebacker!
