Welcome!
Hello, my name is Maricar Estrella. I am one of the site editors/administrators for this web site.
I was born in Manila, Philippines and grew up in southern California. I left the cozy comforts of sunny Cal for the harsh winters of Syracuse, N.Y., to pursue a degree and career in journalism (but if I'm really being honest, I moved thousands of miles away to gain freedom from my strict upbringing.)
I've been a journalist for more than 16 years – all at newspapers. You remember? Those inky pieces of paper that used to be the most reliable source for news and information. (If you don't remember...heavy sigh.)
For most of my life, I've been driven by my career, which took me to exotic places like Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Wilmington, Delaware. Then, I got a job at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, moved to Texas and met the love of my life.
When I married my husband, I became part of a blended family. I have two stepsons, a twentysomething and 7-year-old and two stepgranddaughters. I'm not going to lie to you; it hasn't always been easy being "the stepmom."
But once in awhile, I get a little nugget of love or an unexpected hug, and I know in my heart that I’m truly blessed. I look forward to sharing my stories with you and reading about your everyday lives.
Please feel free to contact me at mestrella@mom2momdfw.com if you have any questions, comments or suggestions on how to improve this web experience.
