Mondays
Mercedes is a first-time mom to a 9-month-old little girl. Her j0b as a sports writer for the Star-Telegram requires some late nights and traveling. So, she'll be blogging in between working, breastfeeding, scrapbooking, dieting and oh, yeah, being a wife. Mercedes was born and raised in Arlington, and thought she knew everything about the Metroplex until she became a mom. Now, she's learning a whole new world. She can write a sports story on deadline with ease, but this mom stuff is challenging. A little help, please...
Cynthia is an experienced mom of two boys -- a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old -- and is known as "Mrs. C" in her Fort Worth neighborhood. She's got a full-time gig as the Design Director at the Star-Telegram. This past school year, one of her boys got suspended for cursing at school. Of course, her response was "_______" (fill in the blanks). Her 15-year-old has a learner's permit, which means he can drive a car with a parent sitting next to him. She can't believe the little boy who used to play with cars is driving one. Where did all of the time go?
Tuesdays
Diana is a mom of a 7-year-old boy, who will be entering the third grade in the fall. She's always been active in her son's school as homeroom mom, PTA board member and all-around volunteer. This school year, Diana will be starting a new career as a fourth-grade teacher in Fort Worth. One of her son's favorite jokes is asking "Do you like seafood?" then opening his mouth to show his half-chewed bologna sandwich. It's funny the first time, but the hundredth? Will she be able to handle a classroom filled with jokesters? You bet.
Cheryl is a mom of two boys -- a nearly 5-year-old and a baby boy. She's noticed that with a second child the 5-second rule absolutely applies and the amount of money spent is considerably less because it's necessary. Cheryl blames herself for her preschooler's sweet tooth. Once, he snuck into the fridge, chowed down chocolate Easter bunny ears and stashed the rest under his bed. She tries to teach her son to make healthy choices (while pigging out on sugary goodness after he goes to bed).
Wednesdays
Kim is a learning-on-the job mom of two little ones. Her son is 4 and is "the great questioner." He keeps the household entertained with queries like: "If I were a Siberian Tiger, where would I keep my shoes?" or "Is our house closer to the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean?" At 17 months, her daughter is already well known for both her fierce determination and complete unwillingness to sleep. She wants to do everything that her brother does, and amazingly, often succeeds! For Kim, free time is a luxury that is rarely seen and greatly treasured.
Mer is a new mom of a 13-month-old sonson. She's a Design Editor at the Star-Telegram and her husband, Sandy, is a stay-at-home dad working on a new career. She says it's hard to believe that this wonderful little boy has only been a part of her life for such a short time.
Thursdays
Maricar Estrella is in charge of content for the site. She's been a journalist for more than 16 years – all at newspapers. After graduating from Syracuse University, she took a soul-searching trip to her birthplace - the Philippines. Then, she focused on her career in exotic places like Wilmington, Delaware and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She moved to Texas and met the love of her life. When she married her husband, Jamey, she instantly became a mom of two boys - 25 and 7 - and a grandma of two girls - 4 and a newborn. All before 40. Who knew?
Jennifer is a mom to a curious little 21-month-old social butterfly. Just when she thought she had this baby thing down pat, the terrible twos hit early. (Maybe, the red hair has something to do with it.) Luckily she's married to a kind and patient guy who's very much a hands-on dad. Unluckily, he doesn't do much housework. When Jennifer isn't vacuuming with her child on one hip, she's a writer/project manager for a communication firm.
Elizabeth is a mom of an active 5-year-old girl with tomboy tendencies. She's also a work-at-home mom who loves being able to stay-at-home in Irving with her daughter rather than being stuck with a 9-to-5 job. Her "Green Urban Mama" blog will focus on her attempt to "go green" without sacrificing style. She read that 75% of the waste that goes into landfills can either be recycled or composted. So, she built a compost -- in her backyard! Follow her progress as she goes learns how to build a family-friendly environment.
Fridays
Heather Witherspoon is in charge of the technical side of the site. She grew up in Garland and graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Arts Magnet) in Dallas. She has a BFA in graphic design and illustration. For the last 12 years, she's worked in the newspaper industry. Heather and her husband have two beautiful daughters Brit (2) and Emerson (5) and 2 miniature Australian shepherds Lucky and Penny. This fall, she'll be fretting about Emerson starting Kindergarten and working on potty training and getting rid of pacifiers for Brit. Cold glass of beer anyone?
Melissa has lived in Fort Worth the past 13 years and is a stay-at-home-mom of a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl. Recently, her son's hair got caught in the zipper of a sleeping bag. Naturally, Melissa's first reaction was to get a camera and capture the moment. Oh, and she did cut his hair. She says she loves being a stay-at-home-mom because everyday is an adventure; just hang on and enjoy the ride.
