It's the most hectic time of the year

This weekend just had to take the cake, although I know it'll get much worse. I was apart from my family for the longest stretch of time in Breleigh's 13-month life. I was in Charleston for four nights -- seemed like a month. In covering TCU, this time of year is easily the hardest and most hectic. Football isn't finished playing and basketball just started. The two sports only overlap for …

What you wear in Vegas...

In full disclosure, I have to admit that I'm a HUGE fan of TLC's show What Not to Wear. It's one of the only shows I watch every week, and I love to catch the reruns, too. With that said, I sometimes feel like I'm a protege of Stacy and Clinton (at least in my mind, always keeping it to myself). And what city is better for people watching -- and apparently bad fashion -- than Las Vegas?

A self-sufficient girl

Breleigh, in her head-strong ways -- wonder where she gets that?? -- has wanted only to feed herself for months now. She got the pincer grasp down pretty early, and soon after, she didn't want us to spoon feed her anything. While this is great and I encourage the independence of it, I'm struggling to find her foods to eat.

Car seat concerns?

This car seat stuff can be kind of overwhelming: Face forward or backward? Which seat is the safest? Which will fit in my car? What can I afford?

SIDS study out

This ran in today's Star-Telegram and I found it very interesting, especially with cooler weather coming (hopefully soon!)...

A great first year

We're officially into the second year of Breleigh's life. It's hard to believe she's 1 already. It really was surreal singing Happy Birthday to her, watching her look around with amazement that all those people were looking at her and singing! She looked at me, looked around, then looked up at her daddy with the sweetest face that I'll never forget! I am so lucky to have such a sweet, happy, fr…

Milk-y Way

We're finally moving on to milk in our house. Breleigh turns 1 on Sunday (sniff, sniff) and we've decided to start giving her some whole milk. She's already eaten yogurt and cheese and things, so I'm not worried about an allergic reaction, but what I'm more worried about is trying to get her to drink it and like it. What were your tricks when introducing milk? How long did it take your kids t…

Such a mom

It wasn't until Friday night that I realized I'm now such a "mom" (I know, one year later...) While my husband was working, Breleigh and I spent our Friday night eating at Chick-Fil-A, running an errand at Babies R Us and stopping by the TCU women's soccer game. We were in for the night at 8:30, which is actually past her bed time. Not that I would have been out partying or anything if I wasn…

Oh the weather outside

... is beautiful!! I love this time of year, when the mornings are cool but the afternoons perfect. I even finally got a chance to work in the yard yesterday (of course, my allergies are paying for it now!). In the Spring, we realized how much Breleigh loves to be outside... seems like all kids do, right? We extended that into our eating out. Especially since the inside of some places is just t…
